Carlinville Christmas Market donates $3,000 to area charities

CARLINVILLE, ILL. -- The Carlinville Christmas Market Foundation (CCMF) announced that it has donated a total of $3,000 to the six area charities it designated to share in the 2007 Christmas Market’s proceeds.  The donation amounts are as follows:

$1,000 to the Macoupin Center for the Developmentally Disabled (MCDD)
$1,000 to the Carlinville Food Pantry (Good Samaritan Ministries)
$250 to the Blackburn College Chapter of Habitat for Humanity
$250 to Macoupin County Cares (a non profit drug-education program)
$250 to the Macoupin Military Support Group
$250 to the Northwestern Food Pantry (of Palmyra)

“Our goal is to produce a successful Christmas Market festival each December, and from that, to share our financial success with area charities,” said CCMF President Lea Hudson.  “We did have another successful Christmas Market, in spite of a second straight year of less than ideal weather.  And we have indeed shared our good fortune with six organizations that help those who are less fortunate.”

At its monthly board meeting in February, the CCMF board assessed its year-end results and voted to present its six 2007 charities with the designated donations.  Treasurer Rosalind Bloome explained that “The higher amounts for the MCDD and the Carlinville Food Pantry reflect the greater number of truly needy recipients served by those two organizations.”

At its March 2008 meeting, the CCMF board will decide which charitable cause(s) it will commit to help with proceeds from the 19th annual Christmas Market, which again will take place during the first full weekend in December (December 5, 6, and 7 in 2008).
