Christmas Market’s 3rd annual Movie Days to feature "National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation"
CARLINVILLE, ILL. – The Carlinville Christmas Market Foundation announced that, in partnership with the Marvel Theater and manager Steve Dougherty, it will once again host a special showing of a classic Christmas movie at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, November 26 and 27, over Thanksgiving weekend.
This year’s famous favorite is “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, and a cast of crazies, including Randy Quaid as “Cousin Eddie.”
Tickets will be $5 per person. They are available in advance at The Book Shelf on the square and at the Marvel. Tickets also may be purchased at the door on the days of the movie showing, if the theater is not sold out.
Popcorn, drinks, and other snacks will be available at the Marvel’s regular prices. Proceeds from ticket sales will go toward this year’s festival on December 2, 3, and 4.
“The great thing about a classic movie is that it’s fun to watch over and over,” said Deanna Demuzio, a member of the Christmas Market board’s steering committee. “You look forward to the terrific scenes you know are coming up and to some new things that you may have missed the first few times.”
“We showed “It’s a Wonderful Life” in 2009 and “Miracle on 34th Street” last year,” said CCMF Vice President Doug Downey. “Those were good starters for our new Thanksgiving weekend Movie Days tradition. Older people enjoyed seeing classics again, and younger folks got a chance to see why those black-and-white movies are still worth seeing 60 or so years after they were made.
“But this year with “Christmas Vacation” we’ve got a more contemporary movie that is in color, is one of the best comedies of all time, and is worth seeing for the umpteenth time. I can see kids, parents, and grandparents mouthing lines from the movie and waiting for cousin Eddie to . . . . Oops, I better not give it away; some people may not have seen it yet.”
